Make every step count - TURN YOUR MILES (RED) and support the fight against HIV/AIDS

Do you like to walk? Do you like to run?

What if you can turn those miles into something powerful -- something that can help donate funds to help purchase lifesaving pills which can help put an end to mother-to-child HIV transmission?

Bank of America, (RED), and Nike+  joined together to "TURN YOUR MILES (RED)" - a campaign that started on October 12 and will go on through December 7, 2014. 

For every Nike+ Running miles pledged to (RED), Bank of America will donate 40 cents - up to $1 million dollars.

As posted in Bank of America's Newsroom:

"Today, it costs as little as 40 cents for two lifesaving pills called antiretrovirals (ARVS) which, when taken daily, can prevent an HIV-positive pregnant woman from passing the virus to her unborn baby. Still, 650 babies are needlessly born with HIV every day. TURN YOUR MILES (RED) is an initiative designed to enable people at every fitness level to play a part in delivering up to $1 million to HIV medical clinics and programs in sub-Saharan Africa. That amounts to 2.5 million days of lifesaving ARVS. "

Here's how you can participate:

1) Register at Nike+ : nikeplus.com
2) Pledge to turn your miles (RED) at  nike.com/onestep4RED
3) From your smartphone, download the FREE Nike+ Running App





4) Every time your walk or run - remember to start the Nike+ Running App and sync your miles with NikePlus.com.


You can sync your miles by going to the Activity's screen, touch the screen and pull it down until you see the instruction to "Release to sync.. "

Your pledged miles get updated every 10PM, so don't panic if you don't see your updated miles 'till the next morning. Also, the (RED) photo above was designed using Picasa multi-exposure collage and not through the Nike+Running App.

Last year when my father passed away in the Philippines, I went home and took some time to visit the U.S. Embassy in Manila to ask what the options are for my mother to return to the U.S. The consul reminded me of the 10-year travel ban. That on or after November 8, 2015 — not earlier – or 10 years after my mom, was deported in 2005 for overstaying her visa, I can email the U.S. Embassy and inquire about my mother’s approved petition. I asked if I need to file another petition, and she informed me I didn’t have to. I asked if I could… and she stopped me and said to ask everything on or after November 8, 2015. This is where I am, and where my thoughts are drifting as I celebrate this month my 16th American birthday. I am counting the months, the weeks and the days. My daughter is getting married in January 2016 and I would love to have my entire family, especially my mother, to be here when that momentous occasion happens.

In line with my goal for this month is to get back on schedule. I got up around 4am to get my 15yo ready for his Model United Nations conference.
